We have been breeding some of our Phrags for compactness. With good color from the Sunset Glow, good flower size from the triploid cross, and rippled petals from the richteri, this will be a perfect small windowsill plant. 'Twister,' an Orchid Zone product, has good color, a large pouch, and highly twisted petals. We have bloomed and registered this one - reminiscent of a Sargeant Eric on a very compact plant.

This remake of a popular Phrag was flasked by Earl at ORCHIDbabies. The Mem. Dick Clements used has a rich red color and a vigorously branched inflorescense that carried 4 or 5 blooms simultaneously.

This Wossen remake is different from the original because schlimii is the pod parent. Schlimii as the pod parent should give better branching, be longer blooming, and have a taller stem than the reverse cross. In addition, the richteri 'Twister' from Orchid Zone is clearly on steroids. The pouch is large and the petal twist is dramatic. This plant of small stature with pink blooms should be a good windowsill plant. The first to bloom was gorgeous: white with pink highlights on a very small plant.

Among the most compact of the species, growing to about 20 cm tall, these seedlings have deep green folliage that forms into clumps quickly. Spring and summer blooms are sequential, each one lasting a few weeks. It can tolerate high summer temperatures, and loves moisture and a shadier environment.

A selfing of this well-known awarded wallisii is now available from our lab. Wallisii grows along the rivers of Equador and moist locations that have bright light. Long petals (to the bottom of the pot) and lighter color with more yellow characterize wallisii when compared to caudatum.
